Dark Data 2022

Dark Data is an exploration into data privacy and surveillance in relation to ourselves and our existence in both the physical and online world. As the lead technical director, I am in charge of iterating and implementing designs in collaboration with two artists and two editors to build the tracking-free, cookie free website from scratch.

Our idea behind the aesthetic choice of a nostalgic desktop is to call back to the origins of the web, a time where notions of data privacy were still not fully fledged, yet the seeds of the internet panopticon very much existed. Juxtaposing darker themes of privacy and surveillance, Dark Data also seeks to touch upon fond memories associated with this nostalgia, and bring playfulness to mind, encouraging the visitor to explore and and interact with the site.
